The Second Emergency: When Physical Threats Become Digital Entry Points
In a crisis, whether a fire alarm, a code blue, or the outbreak of war, human behavior shifts. Security protocols take a backseat to survival, response, and instinct. Workstations are abandoned. Sessions stay unlocked. And in that critical window, attackers find their opportunity.
This session reveals a fundamental flaw in traditional endpoint security: it relies on human behavior at the very moment human behavior becomes most unreliable. Drawing on real-world examples from hospitals, manufacturing floors, and government facilities, we explore how emergencies create the ideal conditions for unauthorized access, data exfiltration, and system compromise.
We introduce the concept of override governance—a new approach that doesn't block legitimate applications from preventing screen locks, but instead governs them with time limits, role-based policies, and complete audit trails. Attendees will learn how to protect workstations in high-stakes environments where users cannot afford to think about security.
