Dr. Majid Malaika

Chief Advisor to the Vice Governor for Supervision & Technology,
Saudi Central Bank (SAMA)

Dr. Majid Malaika joined the Saudi Central Bank in 2022 as a Chief Advisor to the Governor and Vice Governor for Supervision & Technology. Dr. Malaika’s current focus is to enable the Saudi Central Bank to experiment, research and implement emerging technologies/solutions and their impacts to the Saudi Central Bank and the Kingdom’s economy, growth, stability, and overall digital transformation. Prior, Dr. Malaika joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF) early 2015 and have built the Application Security practice at the IMF from the ground up; Dr. Malaika then led the Digital Transformation Operational and Cybersecurity Risk tracks within the IMF working with many Central Banks exploring digital transformation opportunities and highlighting operational and cybersecurity risks, challenges and gaps. Dr. Malaika received his Doctorate Degree in Software Engineering from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas in the United States. His research has been published in various journals and conferences including the CorssTalk Department of Defense (DoD) journal, the International Journal of Information and Computer Security, and the IMF Working Papers. Dr. Malaika work experience includes digital transformation strategy, threat modeling, architecture risk analysis, risk management, secure code review, and penetration testing; in addition to researching the operational and security of Fintech topics such as Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), virtual assets, open banking, blockchain/DLT, smart contracts, big data, machine learning, and Decentralized Finance (DeFi).
