David Tsao

Chief Information Security Officer,
Instacart

David Tsao is the Chief Information Security Officer at Instacart, where he oversees the company’s security engineering, GRC and IT teams. Since joining the company in the Fall of 2022, Tsao has been responsible for developing, maintaining, and promoting information security policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure that Instacart’s information assets are protected.

Prior to Instacart, Tsao served as VP of Security Engineering (CISO) at Marqeta, where he was responsible for the overall security of Marqeta’s product suite and corporate IT ecosystems. Before Marqeta, he previously served as Head of InfoSec and CISO at electric vehicle company, BYTON, in addition to being the Global Information Security Officer (CISO) at Veeva Systems. Tsao also spent 12 years at Gilead Sciences, where he established and led their enterprise-wide information security and privacy programs.

Tsao is a co-founder of Silicon Valley CISO investments, as well as an advisor to startups such as the Information Security Leadership Foundation (ISLF) and Security Tinkerers, both 501(c)3 non-profits designed to foster the next generation of security leaders. He graduated from Pacific Union College with a B.S. degree in Chemistry with an emphasis in Biochemistry.
